Hi, I’m Jesus Carrillo.
I build and run infrastructure at scale. Most of my career has been spent helping organizations adopt the cloud and Kubernetes in a way that is secure, reliable, and actually maintainable by the teams who inherit it. I care less about shipping a clever platform and more about leaving behind engineers who can operate and evolve it without me.
I started out as a hands-on Unix/Linux administrator and worked my way up through roles at Oracle, AWS, Ticketmaster, 1Password, and Velocity Global, picking up expertise in AWS networking, Kubernetes platform engineering, and security automation along the way. I’ve spoken at AWS re:Invent and KubeCon EU, contributed to open-source projects in Go, and helped engineers reach the next step of their careers.
Outside of work#
When I’m not in front of a terminal, I’m usually spending time with my family, out on my gravel bike exploring the roads and trails around the Vancouver area, or in my workshop on an electronics or radio-frequency project. A lot of what I build there ends up documented on the blog: embedded systems, custom PCBs, amateur radio gear, and the occasional overly ambitious side quest.
Background#
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Telematics Engineering from the Universidad de Colima, Mexico. The mix of networking, systems, and telecommunications from that program is still the foundation I build on today.
